Even with this approach you will find times when the BBC does not stream sports coverage to UK users over the internet. This is because they do not have the same rights agreements for internet broadcasting as they do for over the air broadcasting.
To get the best chance of connecting from the UK you could try the BBC Radio applet as this will connect from the radio itself and hence always use a uk address. To install, go to the settings, advanced, applet installer menu on the radio and select BBCRadio then install.
