*It comes with the battery installed. In fact, the battery contains a charge (perhaps not a full charge). The first step in the quick set up is to pull the thin plastic tab out of the battery compartment (without opening the compartment). Once this is done, the battery makes its connection and you can continue with the setup process without actually plugging the radio into a wall outlet.
