I haven't worked with Highcharts, but I have worked with amCharts which is the Flash library they were using previously. Looking at Highcharts, it's almost identical to amCharts in terms of chart support, labelling functionality, documentation & support. Dave said in the article that "we eventually opted for Highcharts because it was already fairly close in functionality to our existing charts," which seems to be pretty accurate.
