(Apologies in advance for the cross-post if you're also on the Railscamp group)
As some of you are probably aware by now, although the dust has barely settled from RC11, RailsCamp 12 planning is underway and the location is Tasmania. Details: When: Starts Friday, November 16th, runs until Monday morning, November 19th. Where: Camp Banksia (http://www.campbanksia.com.au/) (http://goo.gl/maps/hZqg), Port Sorell, Tasmania. 20 minutes drive from Devonport. 1 hour drive from Launceston. Transport: Virgin and Jetstar service Launceston and have at least one direct flight a day from Sydney or Brisbane, and multiple flights from Melbourne. In terms of price and convenience, I highly recommend flying into Launceston, even though Devonport Airport is only 15km from the camp. A bus will be provided from the thriving metropolis that is Launceston (and back on the Monday), but you will need to make your own way into the CBD (airport shuttle bus or taxis are available). The exact time the bus to camp will leave depends on flight schedules. To fill the time in for the early arrivals, I'm looking into the possibility of arranging a private tour of Boags' Brewery. If I can swing it, this will be an optional, paid extra, and numbers will be limited. Yes, there will be tasting involved. Stay tuned on that one. Special note for road trippers: If you want to bring your car, you can catch the Spirit of Tasmania (http://www.spiritoftasmania.com.au/) from Melbourne on Thursday night, that will get you in to Devonport bright and early Friday morning. The earliest you can get to camp is 3pm on Friday, so you'll have some time to check out the NW Coast of Tassie beforehand. What to bring: The usual stuff with one exception: due to the number of people coming by air, we have arranged for the camp to supply towels and bedding. If you really prefer to BYO, you can, but it's not mandatory. Who wants to lug a sleeping bag interstate anyway? Weather: I've had a few people asking about this - you can expect fairly mild weather at this time of year, maybe 18-20 degrees during the day if it's sunny, and probably no lower than 10 degrees overnight. So, any questions? :) Warren. (aka @warren_s) -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby or Rails Oceania" group.
