Here's a re-post of what was going on this fall, as Cdr.Jennifer and myself
attended the
"briefing" *One advantage Rangernet provides is accountibility, or
coverage from different
perspectives.. as this critical developmental time transpires... *I've noted
where changes
from the NW presentation have occured with the recent "talk" ...and look
forward to the
report to come from the Texas meeting..

*As allways... eat yur fill and leave the rest for the brids..

> At the first anual NW Dist. Cdr's conference.. our speaker was
> National Cdr. Rich Marriott...
>
> He presented a very candid review of proposed changes that are about to
> be sent for approval.
>
> Rangernet was well represented, as well as mentioned as a resource..
> and be assured Cdr.Rich is aware of our fellowship and conversation.
>
> The National Commander was presented a tall challenge.. to "re-write"
> our *program into something that will answer the needs of boys both
> today and for the future.
>
> He handled this with open conversation as to the "outside" forces
> demanding change and the "internal" responces indicating changes
> from a self-study..
>
> What was agreed to:
>
> Rangers will attempt to better place programs in smaller churches
> that cannot field a full compliment of traditional OP council and
> Cdr.Staff- *The plan is to develop "segments" or meeting plans
> the will free busy leaders...
>
> Ranger training needs simplification and support...
>
> The Changes- "subject to approval"
> ---------------------------------
>
> Straight Arrows and Buckaroo's will become "Ranger Kids" and expand to
> include the 9 year old boy now found in Pioneers... The achievements
> will be circular, and based on quarterly segments that repete thruout
> the boys time in program..

(*Note from Y2k- This has shifted for some reason.. now proposed is a
camping/GMA program for 8 year olds up 13 called Discovery Rangers)

>
>
> Two programs will be in place for boys 10-17 that *express the desire of
> some to not hold outdoor camps... and a traditional path that promotes
> camping as allways..
>
> "Discovery Rangers" is the new name (subject to approval)

>
>
> FCF remains unchanged so far.
>
> "Challengers" will be a "event based" group for the older boys.
>
> Uniforms will change- *BUT! it will be an expansion, or "liberalized"
> offering to the local Outpost, retaining the "Best Traditions" while
> allowing "Freedom" to those who desire a relaxed uniform.

(*Change Patches in leu of pins "Vest" over t-shirt?)

>
>
> *Remember, to pray!
> -------------------
>
> This is a time of GREAT CHANGE...
>
> Do not "jump to conclusions" or submit to the "Rumor" mill..
>
> Cdr.Rich and his assistant Jim Roundsville made it clear that their
> intent was to protect and preserve solid values while updateing and
> smoothing several issues.. The result should be a "easier" to manage
> Outpost of better trained leaders and boys.
>
> Cdr.Rich is willing to tackle any probelem we find out in the field,
> and has been given a somewhat "free-hand" under the administration of
> Bro. Tom Trask.
>
> Cdr.Rich "beleves" the Patrol Methiod is the one thing we have avoided
> that will power up the Outpost.. He stands firm as a FCF member for the
> core values of Royal Rangers and it's "ministry" to a changeing boy.
>

(*Change- No talk of patrol system)

>
> *Please note: We watched a power point briefing.. but were not privy to
> copies<G> Questions were freely asked and answered, and the candor of
> both impressed me greatly!
>
> Thanks..
>
> Cdr.Duane -=A=- Wheeler
