Makernotes often contain a lot of useful information, that have not been standardized in EXIF, so I think it would be a significant disadvantage to completely remove it. With what software are you experiencing problems - only flickr? Could you send a sample?
I am not being able to save EXIF to JPEG in the first place, exiv2 throws an exception if I don't remove the MakerNotes. Something about header exceeding 64K, if I remember correctly. The Samsung EXIF probably contains it's own thumbnail.
I could send you a RAW file from my camera to test (but they are 25 MB or so).
Thumbnails should be deleted anyway, since they may reveal stuff that have been cropped out of the image, which may be "unintentional" for some users. They are already removed from a lot of cameras, so since you found a generic approach that seemed like a good idea.
You mean it was already being removed for some camera makes/models? Where is that code? Perhaps I can add the Samsung-specifics.
Thank & regards, Camilo
