I've discovered that this was caused by something in the .rawstudio folder, but 
what is still a mystery. Not sure where to start looking. To work around I 
simply renamed .rawstudio and allowed a new one to be created. That is slightly 
painful because I had to reprocess over 100 pictures.

I could just ignore the problem in the hope it never happens again???
