Hi, On the ubunto 10.4 builds that I have (stable and daily) shift C brings up the crop tool options panel (ratios, guides etc) then mouse to create crop area. There are two buttons, one labelled crop and the other labelled don't crop. Depending on your screen layout they may be below the visible area so you might have to scroll down to them on the right.
