Numeric tags should be possible, but the reason for 2010 might fail on you is that the tag is already there, but hidden. We are autotagging all images with a few different things, year, month and such. Then you can easily find all photos from your vacation june last year. Autotags are hidden so they don't confuse in the tooltip-text (try creating a boolean called "library_autotag" with gconf-editor and set it to true, then you should see them)...
