Ah, an "assumed" * That would explain it! Boy, I'm surprised that syntax would still work today. I would never dream of using that! I guess it's like back in the day when even "set var" was not necessary, and you could type v1 = 100 on a line of code

Hi, Karen! I vaguely remember that the parentheses inside the parentheses used to not need, but assumed * so that (percent(intpay+actamt)) is equivalent to (percent*(intpay+actamt)) Albert On Dec 21, 2016, at 11:53 AM, karentellef via RBASE-L <[email protected]> wrote: You'd think after all my decades doing this, that I would have seen this type of column before... but I am baffled! I was told this is a really old database, probably starting in 2.11 days. Look at the attached print-screen, and look at the "billamt" computed column. The word "percent" is used in the computation as if it is a function, but I've searched for "percent" in the help screens and it doesn't exist. Notice also that there is a column called "percent" in the table. If the Percent column has a "50" in it, and the (IntPay + ActAmt) = 200, then it takes 50% of 200 and returns 100 as the BillAmt. But I've never seen syntax like that before! How on earth does it even work? Karen <rbase.png> -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBASE-L" group.
