The only problem is...how do you white list numbers when the call comes showing
your I own phone number? Also, many legit calls, particularly on a budiness
line, come from numbers not in your contact list.Congress should pass a law
that mandates that unsolicited calls must display the correct number and name
of the caller and levy a hefty fine for each violation...in a couple of weeks
we can pay off the National Debt. :)

Javier,
Thanks for the update, I was not sure exactly what was happening. As far as I
know, I have not seen the instance through the group. They are not caught
because they are near impossible to find, and/or originating outside the US.
But I also get those credit card calls daily with no apparent means to stop
them, unless one white lists the numbers in their contact database, rejecting
all other calls.

Steve,
The e-mail is not being sent from my account, my e-mail address is being shown
as a link on the body of the e-mail. I have received a number of them myself so
I know it is a widespread issue and it is now all over the news and looks like
it originated with Google who apparently has taken care of it but, since the
list is now part of Google groups, it is possible it was compromised. I have
changed all my passwords just in case.
It is amazing that in this day and age we still don't have the legislation that
would severely punish the culprits. I also fail to understand why it is not
illegal for telemarketers to use phished phone numbers. I have received calls
from the now infamous "Rachel from Card Services" and the caller ID showed my
own phone number, amazing. Fortunately, my VOIP now filters most of these calls
and if the phone rings just once, then it means the call has been blocked. Even
more amazing is that telemarketer wanted Congress to pass a law that would make
it illegal to block spam calls.

Javier,
I have not seen anything either on the group list so far, so I hope I can
assume it's not related to the list.
Without looking at the email headers of the recipient you refer to, this
generally would be the result that your email password has been compromised on
your email provider's mail server. This is typically a message with content not
relevant with your email address as the sender (spoofed email address)
Expanding the headers will usually show a different sender or reply to. Some
receiving email servers can reject such email, some mark as spam, some let it
right through, depends on what additional tools the service provides to control
spam.
My email provider forced me to change all 40 email passwords in our system to a
combination of upper case, lower case, numbers, and symbols with a minimum of 8
characters, as two accounts were compromised. Gone are the days of easy
passwords.
For sensitive accounts, two factor authentication is a great option if
available.
Hope this helps a little for all.

I know at least one member of the forum received an e-mail with my e-mail
address in the body of the text. I did not keep his name or e-mail in my
contacts so I know it did not come from my Outlook contact list. I know other
associates have received similar mails and I am not sure how this happened, the
sender appears to be a UK domain. I have contacted my email provider and all
the proper security measures have been taken and I have scrubbed all my
computers using 3 different anti-virus packages.
In any case, my emails always include a signature block with my information
(see below) which sometimes includes my company information as well, so if you
received one that did not include this information, you can safely assume it
did not come from me.
Amazing that we still do not have the tools to properly eliminate this type of
issues.
