Hi,

I managed to export the data from our Belgian ID card to a txt file where the data are delimited by a semicolon. This file is then imported into a R:Base table from which the data are used to retrieve an existing patient or to create automatically a new patient record... Then the record is deleted so that it is ready to receive data from the next ID card.... All this is done in the background and in a blink...

I have developed a couple of complete systems like that, including an automated tool inventory system, with employee i.d. Cards, tool scanning, etc. Doesn't really take that much by way of R:Base interface complexity, the scanner driver handles translation of the scan into a keyboard entry. And if your scanner malfunctions, you can still do a direct entry into the data field with your keyboard.

Has anyone integrated a card reader into their R:Base app?  For example an employee using a card reader to swipe on and out like a time clock app.  If so, what hardware did you use and anything else you can suggest?  Mainly concerned with getting the needed info from the card (employee ID, name) into R:Base.

Thank
David Fowler
