Tip of the Day: Creating Less Obtrusive Compiled Applications
Product.......: R:BASE X.5 and R:BASE X.5 Enterprise (Version 10.5)
Build.........: 10.5.1.30326 or higher
Sections......: R:Compiler
Keywords......: Compression, Native, Theme, Skin, Settings
Did you know you can create compiled applications with R:Compiler for R:BASE
where the executables are less obtrusive, where compression and themes may be
disabled to reduce memory allocation and to allow for the native
drawing of forms?
The "Create Compact Executables" setting specifies whether created
executables are
compressed. To create uncompressed executables, uncheck this option
and recompile
the project. To see if the setting suits an application, try
comparing the memory
used of the compiled application when this setting is checked and
unchecked. The
default value is checked.
The "Create Executables with Support for R:BASE Themes" setting specifies if
executables support R:BASE form skinning (skins/themes). When
unchecked, R:BASE
forms are native. The advantage to being a native form is the program does not
have the possible quirks/encounters that can be introduced when manual drawing
forms, compared to the operating system drawing the forms and controls. The
default value is checked.
Tip:
For compiled applications that do not contain or require decorative subject
matter, it is the recommend to uncheck the two settings.
Very Best R:egards,
Razzak.
