Thursday, August 28, 2025 Tip of the Day: Enhanced Default Settings Utility Product: R:BASE 11 Build: 11.0.2.20821 or higher Section: Utilities Keywords: Default Settings, Registry, Search History, Backup
Did you know the Default Settings utility now clears prior search history in R:BASE? The Default Settings Utilityhas been enhanced to automatically delete .RST files from the C:\Users\<UserName>\RBTI folder when launched. If the Create Backup option is enabled, backup files (*.~rst) will also be generated. Most “Find in…” searches store the criteria in .RST files, allowing repeated searches to be run more quickly. These include: * Find in Database Explorer * Find in Stored Procedures * Find in Custom EEPs * Find in Control Properties * Find in Expressions * Find in R> Prompt Output * Find in Data DictionaryWhy the Default Settings Utility matters The utility plays a key role in loading or resetting the Windows registry, allowing R:BASE to launch with a default, predefined interface. When R:BASE is first installed, the default settings are written to the registry. However, for multiple users on the same computer or server installations, those users will not have the ideal development environment. Instead of having users manually configure settings across various modules (Database Explorer, Form/Report/Label Designers, R:BASE Editor, R:Style, R> Prompt, Data Browser, Data Dictionary, etc.), the utility allows you to load a clean default environment in a single step. It is also a valuable recovery tool, letting you restore settings without reinstalling R:BASE. Users have reported success using it to resolve odd behaviors, restore missing menu options, or recover from registry cleaners that removed R:BASE entries. Using the R:BASE 11 Default Settings Utility Location: Installed as RBG11_Default_Settings.exe in C:\RBTI\RBG11 Scope: Applies default settings for the current user on the current workstation Options available: * Reset All – Clears all user registry entries (command history, database connections, recently opened files, etc.) * Create Backup – Saves the current registry branch (RBG11) as a backup (e.g., RBG11_20250821_112508) and creates backup search history files.
