Dennis,

We use Citrix on W2k Server in conjunction with R:Base 6.5++ (and now some 7) at two plants. What I can offer is that your customer needs some pretty good talent with respect to server and network tuning to make it hum. We use all Cisco switches for the network, preferring gigabit speed between the servers and downlink switches for best performance. We use a separate print server, again for efficiency. I can tell you that when things are in tune it works well, and when it is not, they don't. Something as simple as a bad NIC on a client PC or a bad port on a switch can really foul things up.

For 25-30 users we have:

- a domain controller that also serves as a backup print server; contains AD and user home folders
- two terminal servers running Citrix XP
- one print server that also performs tape backups
- one file server which primarily services the database and application only
- one auxilliary server that provides an RF interface and runs robotic tasks

I have only one customer using RBase 6.5++ with Terminal Services and it
has not worked out very well. Performance has been sluggish, especially
printing. The ongoing problem is disconnecting from the data base to run
Reload and the dbfiles are still seen as open. They are considering going
back to a LAN at each plant which worked better but it was more costly
keeping hardware and software up to date.
