Hi Karen -

What happened was I had several colors defined
and they just went away - on the same machine. Tom
Grimshaw provided a definitive answer as to how they
are stored so maybe something happened to the ini file.

You can get them back by designating the field,
going to properties and clicking on background
color. At that point the color patch in the custom
color generator will match that of the field. At this
point you can do a print screen to capture the color
components so that they can be typed in again. If I
designate an unused custom color patch where the color
is to go, the main custom patch turns white instead of
staying the same and the components have to be typed in
again. Do you know of an easier way to recapture a
custom color?
