The code works just fine from an R>. My Rbase.dat file is pretty simple....

G:
CD G:\rb45conv
QUIT TO N

The file called "N" contains the code that gets the application started including the DIALOG box.

If I type "RUN N" from the R>, it works just fine. It is only when I start Rbase by clicking on the Icon that the focus goes to another program
that I have installed (Snagit Version 8)

If I copy rbase.dat to another dat file such as Rbase76.dat, and put it in the same directory with "N", and run RBASE76.DAT from an R>, it works fine.

It only messes up when I use the rbase.dat file that is located in the default location, C:\RBTI\RBG76\rbase.dat

Mike,

(Just happen to be working....on a Sunday no less!)

I copied your exact DIALOG to my R> , hit enter and focus was indeed in
the data entry box . I.E. I was able to start typing and the results entered into
the DIALOG box as expected. So it appears that your syntax is OK.

So, with this in mind, it appears you need to look at other causes. First copy your command to the R> and then try it. If it works, then you know it is something
other than the DIALOG command.

If calling from a form eep you might try "option STAY_ON_TOP ON" at the end of the DIALOG command. This forces the dialog box to stay on top. Not knowing
your app, perhaps you have another form taking focus.

Let us know if it works at the R> for you and if so, is the DIALOG in a form eep or
a stand alone command file?

Subject: [RBASE-L] - Setting the Focus to go straight to a DIALOG Box

Hi Everybody!

When I am starting my application, one of my first bits of code uses a DIALOG box.

DIALOG 'ENTER ID#, PHONE#, BIRTHDAY, OR LASTNAME' =40 vinput =15 vend 1
In order for the user to enter the data, they have to click on the DIALOG box first, otherwise, the typing doesn't put any characters into the DIALOG box. The users get annoyed because they don't know why the
typing is not working.

Is there some way to shift the focus to the DIALOG box so that when the user starts to type, the characters are entered?

Thanks!

Mike
