Thanks Albert. I looked at the file signatures and the problem file is dbase4, 
the 
others are dbase3. Upon a little further checking, the problem file has a 
"note" 
column exported as a separate dbt file. I exported an RB7.5 table without a 
"note" 
column to dbase and was able to attach that file.

Perhaps its a bug, but I can work around it now. Thanks for pointing me in the 
right 
direction.
