The problem with dropping the
trigger, is that it is dropped for other users also.  This means that other
users will not be writing audit files when the trigger is disabled.  This
is a serious problem for me.

Even if you could lock the users out during your updating process, frequently 
dropping the trigger means you run the risk of not getting reinstalled properly 
when you're done.

What is the circumstance under which you don't want the trigger to run?  Maybe 
we can come up with a "thinking outside the box" solution.
