Thanks, Emmitt.  No forms, no user questions in the program.   

I BELIEVE we found the problem with the Exit not happening, problem on our 
end.

Now what we're seeing:  the same piece of code can be run in DOS and Windows. 
 There are some "pause" messages that of course display differently but the 
code runs without error in both environments.  The code run in DOS (through a 
batch file) runs TONS slower than directly from within Windows.
