Claudine: You may be confident of CTRL-ALT-DEL taking you in to task manager without changing or doing anything.
Joan refers to the list of running applications on the "Applications" Tab; the status for each running application is listed. If your app is listed as "Not Responding", it may be your only option is to hit the "End Task" button.
