Necessity being the mother of invention and considering that if you
build it, they will come and all those other nice sayings, someone will
have an idea and it will be obvious to use an iPad or other such device.
Maybe a next version of iSomething will have a projected keyboard and we
could touch type on restaurant napkins. The keyboard has been popular
for a long time. We work with Windows in my office, but the fastest
inputters know how to use the keyboard shortcuts as they are many times
faster than the mouse or pointing. I support several iPads and iPhones.
I have a slider keyboard for my iPhone4S. Siri works, but suffers from
surrounding noises, for example my diesel vehicle. For lookup and
partial search entry with the app completing the word(s), the
keyboardless computing devices work quite well. Right now one probably
use a terminal server of some sort or Gotomypc etc. One probably to
still be addressed by technology is a reliable wireless connection while
traveling. This does not exist in north east Texas. J

Hi,

Very nice to see the living discussion of R:BSE and Tablets.

My experience is that from solutions, forms a Mobile device could be
usefull, like Add an appointment to your CRM database or Add Project
Tasks for Time Billing or use the Camera and GPS/Compass from you Mobile
Device in your special DB Solutions.

Just some info to see and read:

Maybe it is nice to have a R:BASE Touch for iPhone / iPad with some
special touchscreenfeatures and navigation.

What do you think ?

As one of those die hard dos users, I'm still hoping I can get
the windows version up to the speed I'm used to. That said, I'm
convinced I have to go there and the next logical step is large button
apps for tablets. A wireless keyboard for a tab is an obvious need for
heavy text input.

I agree 100% with Mike. But I can't help but remember that I've
heard Bruce's words before... From the die-hard users of DOS who
insisted that windows was for consumers, and nothing would ever replace
DOS for heads-up data entry.

Sounds like the current tablet concept works best for for
consumers, not
        producers, of data. Needs work.
