If Firefox is your default browser, don't launch Firefox, just launch the URL 
and Windows will figure out how to open it.

If Firefox is not the user's default browser, it's probably more "polite" to 
directly launch the URL and let Windows pick the program.

The only problem you have is when you want to use Firefox to open a site 
(perhaps because it requires Firefox) and to ignore the default browser.  In 
that case, use the syntax from the previous suggestion.
