Stephen:

Correct on both counts, and thank you. This simple construction seems to work sometimes, not others.

Yesterday's beyond-the-list quest for a rule regarding " ' " and (CVAL('Quotes')) in ampersand-variable strings produced mixed results: some success, mostly failure.

The rule is out there still; I've not put my finger on it yet.

Whatever it is, it's powerful stuff.

'Preciate ALL your help.

I think this works:

SET VAR vGreatFall TEXT = '(t1.Humpty + '', '' + t2.Dumpty)'

where '' is two single quotes - not a double quote.

I also think it would be clearer to remove the space after the comma and use the & concatenator instead:
...'','' & t2...

Bruce
I would do it like this

  SET VAR vq = (CVAL(‘QUOTES’))

SET VAR vGreatFall TEXT = ('(' + .vq + 't1.Humpty' + .vq + ',' + .vq + 't2.Dumpty' + .vq + ')' )

Buddy

All:

I need to deliver this string into an ampersand variable:

(t1.Humpty + ', ' + t2.Dumpty)

... ala:

SET VAR vGreatFall TEXT = (t1.Humpty + ', ' + t2.Dumpty)

... and for the life of me I can't remember how to frame it up with quotes and parens.

?? Thanks
