Pressing Alt-255 transmits character number 255 in the ASCII character set
which is a blank. Pressing Alt-0255 transmits character number 255 in the
ANSI character set which is the "y" with an umlaut. RBDos uses ASCII and
RBWIN uses ANSI.
So at the R> in RBwin, if you type SET V X TEXT = ' and then press Alt-152
and another single quote, then you will see
SET V X=''
If you then SET V i INT = (ICHAR(.x)) and type SHOW V I, then you will see
255.
Please note that what you see is also dependent on the font that your are
using for the display. In the browser you can choose Terminal font if you
want to see the ASCII characters. Virtually every other font uses ANSI. The
Windows Character Map function (in Accessories) shows the character sets for
each font.
