rj,

<Anybody tried the new PC-Direct Dish to Satellite DSL yet? Used to be just
downloadable, now it's going to be up loadable at DSL speeds as well. They
are offering it to existing customers now, June it's supposed to go public.>

I would recommend looking at these sites for your satellite services.

www.dishtv.com

www.starband.com

DISH TV (echo star) is combining it's video services with Starband to
provide internet access via satellite and using the same dish for access.

What I've read about this service is it is great for those who don't have
access to cable or DSL. It's rated speeds are 64K up and 1024 Down with no
networking support at present time. But they do offer help on their site to
lead in the right direction to setup more than one PC per DISH. It's not
good for any gaming due to the latency time between earth to satellite and
back to earth. It is a good alternative but the installation and equipment
cost is around $500 to $800 and monthly service is between $69 and $79 bucks
per month, unless you catch one of their special offers. The external modem
with Ethernet port is much better than the internal one! Stay away from the
external modems with USB connection for this service. The external modem
gives you the flexibility to network a group of PC to the same modem/Dish
using a switch/router. Hope this gives you a little bit to work with.

Best Regards,
Oma
