I normally give thanks in private but I hope I can spare others the many, many
hours to discover that the column datatype used to store the generated pdf file
must be varbit. I was using varchar since pdf file is suppose to be an ASCII
file. A pdf file is ascii but it contains non text characters, not accepted by
varchar datatype. I change the column datatype to varbit and it works great.
This is an automated Tango/RBase system that uses RBase Reports by upon request
by a user, generated a print-to-pdf file that is stored in a VARBIT column used
by tango to stream the pdf report to the user. The beauty of this is that you
can use all the power of the RBase Report Designer on the server to generate all
your requested reports. No need of Crystal Reports. You only need a pdf
printer driver on your Tango/Rbase system.
