I tried this with various setting of STATICDB & FASTLOCK and got no
significant changes in results.
The test is not flawed, it is only relative. I just noticed a time
differential using different multi settings, everything else being equal.
Yes, writing to the screen does take some time and I just displayed the info
to monitor the progress, however, since I am running the same code, any time
change IS significant, regardless of what is being done. I did run the
program without writing to the screen and the time reduction was only on the
order of 10%. However, the speed difference between MULTI OFF vs MULTI ON
increased slightly from 4x faster to 4.5x faster (local) & 18.6x faster to
20x faster (network) using RB6.5++ DOS.
I realize that there should be some speed degration in a multi-user mode,
but I wouldn't expect this much. Even when multi was on, I was the only
user, (no one else was conn to the DB when I conn to the DB), so that
eliminates concerns in the "multi-user" area.
The question still is: When does multi on make it run so much slower on my
network, whereas, multi off runs about the same on the network as locally?
Are there any other settings that I should look at?
