I wasn't aware people were paying us consulting fees to research their

I have Run/Checked all personal firewalls and have experience in helping
customers to secure there networks. To think that NAT is a good defense, I
know a couple of teenagers that would love to control your system.
Yes, a personal firewall is not going to stop the most advanced attacker,
buy why is he going to be wasting his talents on small fish. To not take
steps to try to stop them is just plain naive.
You have your right to your opinion on this forum, but these people are
looking for answers that are concise and tested so they can implement and go
on with there work. When I make a recommendation of a specific
Hardware/Software solution, I have put a lot of time and thought behind it
and take it very seriously.

Generalization is required as the art of breaking firewalls/networks is
general. I don't believe in 'personal firewalls' to be honest with you.
They create a false sense of security. But, if I were looking for a
product, to protect a PC from simple attacks/access, from someone who
basically just downloaded some 'hacking' program and is running it; I would
pick ZoneAlarm.
As I said before, there's a product out there called MidPoint, which is a
complete software based routing/firewall/nat package. Although I can't
verify how secure the gateway itself is, I can say that your internal
network is in good shape if it is addressed with a 192.168 number and then
NATed to the 'net.

Zone alarm is good for simple blocking, but you can be assured that if any
software out there is going to break on an attack, it will be the 'personal
firewalls'. To protect a complete network, you need something more robust.

But your safe with ZoneAlarm Pro as a very good and inexpensive software
option. You will need to go with the Pro version which will allow you to
customize access configuration. I run a web-cam and ZoneAlarm Pro was need
to open only the IP Addresses I wanted to allow access to my web cam.
