I can't speak to the problem you're reporting
but I've seen weird things happen with Excel
'97 and Windows 2000.  If this is Windows
2000 you're using, see if you have the same
problem when using the Office 2000 version
of Excel.

The weird problems I saw all went away in
Excel 2000 under Windows 2000.  Also note
that the problems didn't show up under Excel
'97 when the op system was Windows ME or
Win 98 or Win 95.
