Here's a crude but perhaps effective suggestion to add to all the
ingenious methods suggested. 

Someone defending the status quo at your client's might want to claim
your method of isolating dups is faulty but it's hard to argue with a
TALLY of the source data which is supposed to be unique.

set var vcmd = 'TALLY colname FRO table'
outp dups.txt
writ .vcmd
&vcmd
outp scre

will give you a written and easy-to-understand report.
