Once again , many thanks for your helpful suggestions. Following the call from Neil Smith (Aspen Software UK), I ran AUTOCHK, saving the messages to a file and discovered problems in several tables. Broken pointers, unexpected locations and such. I made a further copy of the DB then did a reload. All seemed to be OK but then 'I/O problem' messages started to reappear and I finally decided to ditch the reload and the copy and go back to the older version which meant re-entering everything - but at least all is now secure. As with recent events, because nothing happens you think that will continue to be the case, then suddenly it isn't ! It sure makes you realize the value of backing up. I am now setting up a mini auto-backup, just a simple copying of the RB? files to a different machine during the night and will then develop that further. I feel sure Troy and others posted something a while ago on Auto Backing up - looks like another night of research. You're a great bunch, thanks again. Probably the most racially diverse people on earth. From every continent, every nation, every people, every religion, every sect. People from literally all over the world.
