Razzak I have been trying to rollout a big system for several months now using a single user to check to see if holds up. It keeps crashing. This user says it happens when the network is heavily loaded, a clue.
Having just tried James's theory I believe he is right. I can replicate his problem every time given the right conditions. The main ingredient is speed. The machine vs the user. If the machine is slow and the user fast you have a problem. I have carried out a test on a P2 machine (typical in an office environment) using a 2 table form with 24 columns, 3 combo boxes, 6 check boxes, 9 variables and 18 buttons. I will try and explain what happens; Would you believe the user knows exactly where the buttons are going to appear so he/she click the right place as the form is painted (I have trained myself to do this, not easy). The buttons on my test form all run code that SAVEes the current row then CLOSEes the window. My test program then does a CHOOSE. It crash as soon as I CHOOSE something. My guess is that an instruction is issued to close the window before it is painted. When I can get at a slowish machine next week I will insert a PAUSE before the eep code runs to see if it cures it. There is no way I can replicate it on my 1 gig machine as I cant move the mouse fast enough. As an aside these tests are melting my R:Base mouse mat!!!!!!! Ian At 11:26 13/12/2001 -0500, A.
