Has anyone out there had any experience with using R:Base to output to a
thermal label printer?
<<
Yes, I do.
I have a RBase for DOS 4.5++ app that print bar codes on severals
differents brands of thermal label printers (INTERMEC, MARKPOINT and
DATAMAX).
Output is direct on the serial port or to a file that is printed later with
the COPY command.
>>
I need to use my R:Base database to generate bar code labels one or two at
a time.
<<
No problem .. except time if your printers are spooled.
>>
I have looked at some thermal label printers (for instance:
http://www.barcodehq.com/thermal.html), but I understand they don't print
directly from all Windows applications, using a standard print driver.
<<
That is rigth. You must 'drive' the printer directly thru the app ... and
there are no standards : each printer has his own logic (or unlogic ! )
>>
However, I remember that you used to be able to send the escape codes
(using R:Base) to the printer and control the device directly, without
using a print driver. Can that still be done?
<<
Do you mean with RBW ?
Answer is Yes, but you'll have to use PageMode.
I wrote some weeks ago an app with RBW 6.5++ that print on matrix printers
and I send escape codes to command special printers functions.
Data flow is send to a file, and then that file is sent to the printer (to
the port where the printer is connected to).
I had never used PageMode before, and was very anxious about it ... but it
was much more easy as expected.
Main problem was to store printers specific command outside the code,
because my app has to be printer independant ... and this is not easy ...
