The 2 gig limit is a single file size limit, and that limit is there because in 32 bits, you can only have 2gigs worth of addresses. - 32^2 = 2gig
I doubt if the next version will change, but I am sure someone that actually knows the answer will correct me if not. Oterro does still have the same limit, BUT with Oterro, you can connect to multiple database. When your database starts getting in the 2 gig size range, you should start thinking about ways to break it up and put less used data in other database and then pull it temorarly into the main database when you need. The smaller you can keep your main database, the better off you will be. Reloads will go faster and it willl be easier to manage. For example, I do document management in my database where we scan the paper files into the database and store them with the client files. It is works great. We have to date scanned about 75,000 pages of information in which are actually stored in 20 other databases. The user never knows or cares because when they need a document in another database, I unload from that database and load it into the main database and then drop it out of the main database after it has not been used for a month. ===== Original Message from [EMAIL PROTECTED] at 1/30/02 11:10 am >Is the 2 gig database limit for 1 database going to go away in any new >releases of RBASE? >Does Oterro have the same limit? > >rich > >================================================ >TO SEE MESSAGE POSTING GUIDELINES: >Send a plain text email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] >In the message body, put just two words: INTRO rbase-l >================================================ >TO UNSUBSCRIBE: send a plain text email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] >In the message body, put just two words: UNSUBSCRIBE rbase-l >================================================ >TO SEARCH ARCHIVES: >http://www.mail-archive.com/rbase-l%40sonetmail.com/ ================================================ TO SEE MESSAGE POSTING GUIDELINES: Send a plain text email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] In the message body, put just two words: INTRO rbase-l ================================================ TO UNSUBSCRIBE: send a plain text email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] In the message body, put just two words: UNSUBSCRIBE rbase-l ================================================ TO SEARCH ARCHIVES: http://www.mail-archive.com/rbase-l%40sonetmail.com/
