Alan,
When you installed it, did it create a printer driver that allowed you to choose between the writer and the distiller?
Sure would like to know.

Phil,

I use Adobe 5.0 (upgraded from 4.0) and have no problem whatsoever in choosing either PDF Writer or Distiller for creating PDF files.

My two cents.
I use Adobe writer a great deal.  I have Adobe Writer 4.0 at the consulting site and Adobe Writer 5.0 on my laptop.  I am de-installing 5.0 from my laptop and re-installing my 4.0 license.  Here are the resons why:
1.  5.0 has an enormous amount of overhead when it launces and runs.  The processing time is more than double.
2.  5.0 does not have the ability to print to the PDF writer instead it sends you to the distiller.  With 4.0 you can choose the writer without the distiller.

I know that it has more whistles and bells but when you are just trying to create a report to send to customers, or ftp it to a website, 4.0 is much faster.

These are my personal observations that I wanted to share with the list group.
