        I have found no need for memory settings under W2K.  The
disadvantage to making a shortcut to an exe is that when you run in a
window, the window is VERY small and the only other choice is full screen.
Change of fonts with the shortcut has no effect.  The window launched from
the icon is always the same size regardless of font setting.  

        If you make a shortcut to a batch file you get more control over
font/window size and can get fonts that are big enough to read without
squinting; however, as you point out, there is no control over memory
settings.  Another example of M$'s wonderful design ideas at work.
