I got into R:Base in the mid 1980's when Microrim sent out $145 offers to all the 
accountants in the world (or at least North America).  I was fighting to get 
intelligible reports out of dBase III + at the time, and figured that $145 was cheap 
to see if it worked better.  It did.

Since then, I seem to have spent a few $$$ with Microrim and successors upgrading to 
the latest and greatest - good for them, good for me.
