I'm trying to write my first report in R:Base 6.5++ for Windows. Here are a few of the problems that I've run into. I'm listing the problems and then what I've done to get around it for now. Can anyone suggest other possible work arounds?
Scenario: I am trying to print reports to perforated paper at 3 to a page. The report template cycles between a few models to vary fonts and layout using a very effective loop. The table in which the data resides has about 1500 rows and is fairly straight forward. Problems: 1) When the reports print to the laser printer using: "print &reportvar where current = cur1" each ends up on its own page although there in no change of output and all footers and headers are deleted and there are no carriage returns at the header or footer. How do I get these to share a page? 2) On the same line: "print &reportvar where current = cur1" the report is taking 12 columns from the row to fill in many fields and 4 report variables. Ironically, all of the report's variables print flawlessly. Several of the straight forward column fields get mixed up so the column #10 ends up where #8 should be and the fields that should contain columns #10 and #11 are left empty. See the work-around section for the kicker. 3) What is the best beverage to keep you up past your bedtime? Select from the following link: http://www.thinkgeek.com/stuff/caffeine/drinks.shtml 4) I keep typing ls -al instead of dir at the R>. I'm back in UNIX mode, any chance I can make use of my native skills after the conference? Work-Arounds 1) I am printing to a stack of forms. When the job nears the end of the stack, I separate the perforations and slide them into the pile and repeat until all three are used up. Very manual, but I suppose I've got to get paid for something physical, eh? 2) I have substituted the following: "print &REPORTVAR where RECID = .VRECID" Everything comes out just fine. Of course, I declare RECID and fetch it as VRECID so that it should be the equivalent as the cursor, but it doesn't give me a strange result. 3) I took up smoking cigars, so the midnight draw on a Macanudo or Acid wakes me up real nice, but it is kind of expensive. 4) I started cutting off fingers at each nuckle when I started to type "ls" (oops, just lost another one). Generally, it is a great motivator. Otherwise, I move over to my RedHat 7.2 system and play with DNS, APACHE, PHP, and SAMBA. Thanks for any help in advance and see you in PA.
