While I've been amending these interminable reports that you may have read about - actually, it's getting easier with practice (but only a little) - I've also been watching and trying to determine what happens with [PageDown] and the dots.
I think I can see what is happening now: I don't know if it's relevant but I have set the spacing to 20 pixels with FixedSys font at the default 11 points. This gives me text/variable/column boxes that fit the spacing perfectly. With the R:Base screen full screen on my display at 1280x1040 and the report in use full screen within R:Base (as Razzak pointed out earlier) I can place the objects line by line exactly as you would expect. However, if I then either [PageDown] once, scroll down with my mouse wheel one division, or click on the vertical scroll bar once - note these are all one increment - then the objects appear to sit midway between the dots - or the dots in the middles of the objects, depending how you see it. If I then repeat one further increment of either type of movement the objects line up again with the dots. Do it again and they are out of line again. Fourth time they're back in line, etc., etc. This appears to be completely consistent in all the reports that I've been working on. Obviously, I now have a work-around - move in units of 2 when scrolling up or down!
