I did the same thing Javier did (same options, same versions). Excel
gave me the following error upon opening the file: "Errors were detected
in "test2.xls" but Microsoft Excel was able to open the file by making
the repairs below. Save the file to make these repairs permanent: lost
document information". The file otherwise looked fine.

Subject: RE: GATEWAY EXPORT XLS5

I tried using Gateway from the Utilities menu (Import/Export)
and selected Excel 5.0 as the type. When I tried to open the
file with Excel 2000 (9.0.3821 SR-1) I got the following error
message: "This program has performed an illegal operation and
will be shutdown. If the problem persist, contact the program
vendor" I am running Window 98SE and Rbase 6.5++ Build
1.855XRT03. I would say the problem is reproducible and probably a bug.

Subject: GATEWAY EXPORT XLS5

I tried the GateWay export to XLS5 (and 4 and 3), but each time
I attempted to open the file in Excel, Excel had a fit and
GPF'd. I replaced the string XLS5 with DB4, and Excel opened
the file perfectly, but of course the column Identifiers were
Col_1, Col_2, etc.

Is it me?
