Thanks David, podetail had another FK referencing the wrong table.  I don't understand how that could be because the col it was referencing does not exist in that table.  The ponum should have referenced the poheader table but instead it said it was referencing the Parts table.  I checked my macro that contains all the PK and FK commands and it was referencing poheader not parts.  The alter command now works, but I didn't have to use the TO clause.  I wasn't changing the size, I just wanted to make it  not null.   Bernie ----- Original Message ----- From: David M.
