I do not if this will help but the choose command assigns the data type to the variable. In fact the manual (Rbase 5.5 but still valid) indicates "do not use a variable in a choose command if its data type is already assigned" I wonder if predefining the variable vKidList is causing the problem. Have you traced you program to verify that all your variables have the correct data type and the expected value?
