I don't sdetach tables.
In my startup files I have
CONNECT database
SCONN .........IDENTIFIED BY WhoEver
Then continue with my startup stuff.

Well now, that's simple, isn't it? I assumed that once the
database and tables are SCONNECT'ed that they stay that way.
So what's the preferred way to do it? Do you bother SDETACHing
or SDISCONNECTing at all? Or do you leave the tables
SATTACHed and just SCONNECT when you need to use them?
