Thanks Damon I have been trying using declare cursor since 3.0 I believe (or was it 4.0= anyway my memory is as bad as 3.0 was the worst version of R:Base  ever released) I will take your world for it and give it an other trie. In a day or 2 I will write a program declaring cursor and not use exi but is not not null and not using fails but is null. The problem is that that problem stays.
