I've seen this happen in single-user R:Base 7.0 (not 7.1). I'll edit with a form and then the table locks used by the form hang around. I'm not sure, in that case, whether I'm prevented from using ALTER TABLE since it's the same station that has the lock out, but in a multi-user situation I'm definitely locked out of doing anything to the table. -- Larry
