I copied and pasted your commands at the R:> and the row is inserted and today's date entered in the last field as we'd both expect. However, what I was doing before was opening the table in the Database Explorer, pressing [F4] and then [F2]. In this case IN MY TABLE NOT ComComp the calc field was null and I couldn't save the row on exit. If I do this IN ConComp the date field is null until it is updated as the row is exited. That leads me to assume that something else is wrong in my table so I come back to the other point that I made in my original post on this subject: "In trying to work out why this is not working I have also noticed that two other date fields are not accepting their default values either. Both are date fields with the No Calculation radio button selected and a default value of: 01/01/1900 (date formats: dd/mm/yyyy & ddmmyyyy). I have tried putting single quotes around the date value which appears to insert the current date rather than the required date and I have also tried putting the value in a CTXT function which isn't accepted but, otherwise, all I seem able to get is a null value." I've also tried putting the date in brackets but I still get nulls. What is the correct way to specify the date? On its own? In quotes?
