R:BASE version 7.5 now in beta will begin to address some of these issues with a user-selected language, but there are still a number of problems to be worked out. What follows is a list of the types of problems that developers encounter - and this list is provided to R:BASE Technologies to help them determine the best way to make the lives of international developers a little easier in the context of what they determine to be priorities in upcoming releases of R:BASE.
To all our International Users:
The head of R:Dream Team, Wayne Erickson, had an opportunity to sit down with Adrian Hssy (leading the International Developers' meeting) to discuss many issues, most importantly CURRENCY settings.
It is my pleasure to inform you that effective with the official release of Update 78, to be released soon, the CURRENCY settings have been enhanced. Changing the CURRENCY CONVENTION will not change the decimal delimiter or the thousands delimiter for non-currency values. What this means is that you can change your currency to a style like "A" where the thousands delimiter is a dot and the decimal delimiter is a comma without changing the characters used for decimal points in double or real values. All conversions and displays of currency values will be looking for the characters associated with the convention, but conversions and displays for REALs, DOUBLEs, and NUMERICs will use the standard decimal point.
Very Best R:egards,
Razzak.
