SQL Server is a client/server database. It is very fast, very flexible and very
expensive. The
latest version of SQL Server is alleged to have a reporting module included
which is similar to
Crystal reports in its functionality. Forms have to be created using another
application. The best
alternative, also expensive, is to use visual basic for the front end.
Licensing is based on
either the number of seats or the number of processors in the server.

It takes much longer to build an application in SQL Server than in R:Base.
