I think XP on the server and 98 on the workstations.
It seems that the server only has 3 printer Icons
listed, one for each workstation.

I was wondering if they could just plug the printer into the
server and let the workstations access it?

Marc,
what is the operating system?  sounds like it is  a peer to peer network since they are trying to print from the server.
Do these printers have a Jet Direct card or a built in network card?
Each workstation should have the printer drivers loaded on the workstation, and the printer should be set up as a network printer.
Try connecting one of the printers to a workstation, then sharing it and see if others can connect to it.

If they have 3 workstations and 3 printers why not connect each printer to each workstation and forget about the network.

Subject: [RBG7-L] - network printer

I have a user that is having network printing problems.
From what I can tell talking to them this is how it is set
up.  At least this is what they think.

They have a server and 3 workstations.  The printer
is not connected to any computer just the network.
If they try to print from the server they can't.
If they run prnsetup they get a message saying
no printer installed or something like that ...
use control panel.

When they do that RBase crashes, they restart
RBase and run prnsetup and they can select a printer
and print.

If they go to Start,,, Printers there is 3 printer, named
HPworkstation1, HP workstation2...and 3

Shouldn't thery have some sort of printer for the server?
Should they have the printer plugged into the back of the
server instead of the network?

Thanks
Marc
